Opening Day Doves
« on: September 02, 2014, 10:54:12 AM »
Went out yesterday, got 3 but should of had more. Thought the storm earlier in the week chased them off since I don't hear them in the morning anymore. Should of been more patient, went out to retrieve the 3 birds and had a bunch fly in while retrieving and also missed a couple (ended up shooting 3/4 of a box). The decoys really draw them in. This was my 3rd time (1st time this year obviously). Besides my impatience, getting the motion decoys higher up would help (especially the wind driven one).

Looks like a great set up. Those little buggers are hard to hit sometimes.

That does look like a good setup!  Nice job.

I don't know anything about hunting doves... just wondering where were you hunkered down at?  Were you in the tree line or just sitting on a bucket out in the field in camo?   :dunno:

Thanks! There is another tree line to the right of the picture against some railroad tracks. I was wearing my Kill suit (like a ghillie suit) and was under the trees in the shadows. A couple of birds I missed flew and landed in the tree I was in front of and hung out for a couple of minutes. I also had a dove call from Primos which I think also helped. Before the action started, had a couple respond from.
