Doves with the daughter
« on: September 01, 2014, 08:33:43 PM »
Had permission to hunt a field showed up and they decided no, hadn't cut the wheat yet. Plan b, call my old boss and ask. Was told to go to a property with a small pond and some old grain field next to alfalfa. He said he hadn't seen hardly any doves. I got set up and was done 30 min later. Was a pretty good shoot and my 3 year old daughter had a blast! It was the pups 1st hunt and she did great, just needs to learn she doesn't have to see them to find them. She found and retrieved each bird.

Your title reminded me of a story in Peterson's Hunting mag. quite a few years back called "Doves and Daughter". I still have the story this day. Your pick's with your daughter went right along with the story   Thanks for the memories..

Hey Buglebuster - great story and pix.
Were any of those doves the ECD's?
(Eurasian collared dove)
They look just like our typical Mourning Dove, slightly larger and have a black stripe across the back base of their neck.
They are considered an invasive species, and can be hunted year-round.
I've been seeing them around Spokane and wonder if they are breeding with the native doves.
