Utah buffalo once in a lifetime tag
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:20:50 PM »
I thought some of you might like to see a picture of the skull of my buffalo I was able to harvest. I drew after 18 years of applying in Utah.  size 14 shoe for size reference.  This is truly a hunt where you have to find the buffalo.  They are much bigger than I ever dreamed.  I was able to get 1325 lbs of meat back from the butcher from this animal.  And it is so good. Some of us think it better than beef.
300 WSM 180 grain bullet.  Took 2 shots one in each shoulder as the first shot just turned him around.  We snuck to 108 yards and just bellied over a ridge.

Congrats.  I would love to kill a wild buffalo someday.

Congrats, awesome bull. I have 16 Utah bison points and it just seems like that illusive Henry's tag just gets further and further away, but I can't complain too much because I drew Wyoming bison my first try. There is nothing like hunting wild bison.

Thanks for the compliments and yes it was really fun to get it down and taken care of.
I love DIY hunts.  I love it that we have the opportunity in America where we really can do this kind of hunting.  We are blessed.  I hope you all get to take your kids someday on a buffalo hunt.  It made a difference in my mind of what happened in America a long time ago and that we can save these animals for all of us to enjoy.
