Cabela's Lacey Store
Attention all firearm owners: Please pass this info along and also include it in your chat rooms please, this needs to be distributed around.
A single mother who lives in rural Pierce County who has had her home broken into twice in recent years, volunteered her time for more than two years on the Pierce County Firearms Advisory Commission decided to buy a used handgun. She has no criminal history and this is what took place:
August 31, 2014 she went to Cabelas Lacey and picked a handgun out of the library to buy and filled out all of the paper work. She does not have a carry permit so she was informed there would be a wait of around 3 days for her background check. There was no word from the store so a call was made to inquire and was told the handgun would not be released until they heard from local law enforcement (Pierce County Sheriff) besides doing the federal check also. The store was informed of state law RCW 9.41.090 which states that if local law enforcement does not reply by the 5th business day then the dealer can proceed with the sale anyway.
Cabelas Lacey staff and management refused to follow state law, it was over 5 business days and they would not release the pistol, even though there was no hold on her from law enforcement and she passed the federal check. They stated including the store manager JB that the Lacey store has a policy of waiting for law enforcement to respond no matter how long it takes and they don't care what state law says by having this unwritten policy. Staff at the store also stated that the NRA welcomes their store policy for waiting for local law enforcement even if it included waiting longer than the state required 5 days, but when a call was made to NRA-ILA they were not to happy and stated as always the NRA does not support waiting periods only the call in checks.
Cabelas Corporate was unaware of this Lacey Store policy and had promised to resolve it, but it turns out the store managers seem to have allot of control and the store manager stated that this was not a Corporate issue and he could make and enforce any policy he wants to.
So the Lacey Cabelas has a unwritten policy that they make a customer wait longer than the state required period in RCW 9.41.090 so they can sleep better as one staff member stated. What happened to peoples rights as protected by existing laws. Also this policy was not presented verbally to her when making the purchase either on August 31, 2014, they just deceive the customer after the fact of there unwritten store policy.
Please pass this along to other firearm owners, we need to stand together for our rights and ask yourselves, does the Lacey Cabelas store care about your rights as a gun owner, its obvious they don't and I hope people think about who they do business with in the future.
Call the manager at Lacey and tell JB what you think of his policy at 360-252-3500 or call Corporate at 308-254-5505 and ask for Rob and ask why Cabelas believes they need to enact on their own stricter policy's than existing federal and state law.
