No Bull Here
« on: September 09, 2014, 09:12:16 AM »
So I was lucky enough to get the Observatory Quality Elk tag and really wanted one of those 6x6's that taunt me every year for the last 5years (always without a tag of course). After what felt like a really long 4 days of hunting and seeing no elk and little sign I was given a choice at 7:05pm on Friday. After much deliberation (about 15 seconds) I decided that a freezer full is worth more than an un-punched tag. I was set-up in a ground blind and she stepped into the clearing at 45 yards I was a full draw and let it rip. She was hit perfect and only made it about 20 seconds and 25 yards. My Montec G3 100grain and pile driver arrow hit just behind the shoulder, broke the inbound rib and outbound rib and I never did find the arrow. Got the first load back to camp ~1.5 miles away at 12:30am. Left the rest quartered and hanging until 5:30am the next day. I will tell you even as tired as I was I didn't sleep a wink and couldn't relax until we got back in the AM to find that no Cougar, Bear or Sasquatch had gotten to it (all running through my sleepless head between 1-5am. So that is the story, there seems to be some nice elk being taken this year. Keep up the good work everyone!  Oh and she was pretty heavy, 4 quarters, all other prime cuts, neck and rib meet off the bones was 276lbs at the butcher.

elk in the freezer beats tag stew anyday
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

Great job, the fact is that any elk killed during archery season is a trophy in my mind, when everything comes together that moment when you release the arrow is the same for a bull or a cow
