Quick Sekiu trip
« on: September 22, 2014, 09:43:10 AM »
Got to Sekiu Friday at 1:30p.m. launched fog rolls in we head out with gps picked one up an hour later my sons first salt silver. He's happy! Getting later and cold, thicker fog boats, still screaming around in that soup so we head in to meet with friends already there.
Day two light fog picked one up for me and then the wind screamed in from northeast like crazy so we retreated back to harbor. Wind never did let up, tall rollers, white caps and rough and a full harbor of anxious fishermen wanting to get back fishing. Wind starts to let up yet still rough.
Our friends larger boat heads out with five aboard and they picked up 9. We tried to stay just inside Slip Point and we took a beating, missed three though. We were pushed hard from the wind, rollers, and slop in between, friends called from just a bit west of harbor entrance advising us to not slide any lower as it was real snotty down there.
We agreed and headed back in, tiller hard port aimed at entrance, throttle control as the drift and wind pushes us starboard to the entrance!
Listening to weather report Sunday was not going to get any better so we pulled the trigger and left Saturday evening. We checked out lower Squaxin Island and friends took on Edmounds on Sunday they picked two and we had fun sightseeing, and looking for silvers on the fish finder. Still a bit early, so we are going Muzzy hunting next weekend!
Here's the grip n grin shot.

Whatever........

Nice fish! I fished way west on Saturday and got pounded by that east wind heading back... probably the worst wind chop ive seen up there this summer. Weather guys missed it for Sunday... it was glass through the morning.

Limited Fri, Sat, and Sun. Wind on Sat was terrible my 17' glasply took a beating and my son is still a little puckered. Sunday was great. First time up there for the silvers and had a blast.
