Vernita kings

Anybody doing any good near Hanford / vernita?? Heading down Wednesday for a few days to give it a go!!! Great year for fall chinook, hope to boat a few. After last years disaster of a fishing trip, (motor/trolling bracket problems) it got to be better this year!!!

With so many boats, and different fishing techniques, things can get real ugly.

I have been 3 times and had 3 on each time. Only landed 2! There is a salmon derby every weekend and expect to wait in long lines just to launch. Vernita has hundreds of campers and trailers and it really sucks launching there. Ringold has room for at least 10 to launch at a time and is much better. During the week it won't be too bad because the derbies are Friday through Sundays. People catch them everyway imaginable. We use downriggers flashers and cut plugs with tuna. I have caught them with spinners, magnum wiggle warts, and salmon eggs.

Ya it's usually packed!!! The wait in the line to launch does suck! I didn't know about the derby??? And ya I use same set up as you and the other few hundreds of people there. Flasher/ Superbait/tuna. How recently were you there?

I'm hearing of really good results from the past couple days.  I'll be heading there Friday to pitch the tent and my dad will be coming from Bremerton later that evening.  We'll be there until Monday.  We we're out there 2 weekends ago and it was mixed.  People did well down below Vernita and up closer to the dam.

Its no picnic getting them with all the boats, but there are a few fish around...... Lots of guys running at high speeds right through the boat packs.....typical zoo! Here are a few of the ones we caught.

We did well in the low water this weekend flat lining K-16s. The bite seemed to turn on when they lowered the water.

Anyone catching any on plug cut herring? I brined up some and never tried any.

Whole herring yes, plug cuts no (the current seems to rip them off pretty quickly). When you go to Vernita it doesn't hurt to have a little bit of everything. It seems like one day they want plugs, the next egg, the next superbaits, the next...

Some buddies were down there Monday/Tuesday and didn't have much luck on superbaits. Got a couple on herring that were 8-9lb jacks.

We caught 5 adults and a jack today. The adults were 19,18,14,13, and 8. We lost 3 bigger ones. I also caught a sturgeon. All were on eggs. It rained on/off the whole time we were there. Water was very low.

Me too! All the fish we caught were males. Sure would have liked a few eggs. The WalMart eggs are just not the same! We will be there Friday in my friends boat, with our 6yo sons!!

There is a store in the tri-cities that has good eggs, it is called ranch and home. 845 N. Columbia Center Blvd. Kennewick. They have lots of fishing tackle. The 2 biggest fish of our 6 were hens with nice eggs.
