Hunt by reservation
« on: October 04, 2014, 03:17:19 PM »
Has anybody on here reserved a hunt succesfully? It seems like the dates arent set up for Modern firearm for alot of the public land and if you are not on there at exactly 0800 am you are not going to be able to reserve it. I have tried a couple places and they are all gone by 0830am

Are you talking about on the wdfw site? or for the reservations that you have to call in and be the first to call to reserve a spot?

For wdfw you just sign in on the hunt by reservation and it will ask you if you want to reserve the dates if not already reserved.. i have done it that way several times..

I am scratching my head over the hunt by reservation, would someone please give me an idea of what this is, how it works. Don't think I am interested in using it but curious about what it is. Double checked on the state wildlife website, didn't see anything about it.  Thank you.

If you go to the wdfw site type in hunt by reservation.. then click the login/register Now on the right side of the page.
the you will type in your wild ID number  and email address. after logging in you will hit search for places to register.. click on the property you would like to find info on. if sounds like the place you would like to hunt look at the right of the page and look at the dates it is available to hunt and season.. click on it and it will ask of you want to register this property. then you will print the page and have the dates reserved.

Also it will allow you to add a hunting partner but they have to have to sign in and accept that you have added them to hunt with you.

Hope this makes sense.. :)

IMHO the reservation system is good in theory not in practice. Has anyone reserved a property on Opening weekend? Consider yourself lucky.

I was going to use it for the first time this year, but logged in and the reservation was gone.  The reservation was for the Tonasket Creek area in Ferry county.  I was on at 801 and missed out.  Someone must be faster then me.  :tung:  I had a friend successfully reserve it for Muzzy season. (He didn't have much luck, but was hunting in shorts and a tanktop!)  Oh well back to my public land spot! Not headed over until the 14th and will hunt through the next weekend.

The hunt by reservation system would work great if the WDFW would grow balls and tell the farmers that if they are going to get paid then they must allow decent access to their land. I know of a ton of hunting by reservation properties in Whitman county, almost all of them have the same parameters for hunting access. Each property allows two hunters to hunt wed/thursday during the week and they do this for archery, ML and Modern seasons. So in total the properties allow 6 hunters total to access that land for a total of 6 days. I personally know a large land owner that is enrolling in this program next year because as he says " Its great, I get paid a bunch by the state. And I still have private access to my property for 90 percent of the seasons." And its a grip of money, like $3 an acre.

I've used the reservation system 3 times so far and was successful 2 times.   The first time I was on 8:30-8:45AM and all spots were taken.  2nd time I got the last one at 8:03.   Third time it closed sometime after 9AM (when I stopped watching)

Just getting others opinions if it even worked. I was trying to reserve a spot so i could take my nephew out to get his first deer which i was hoping to be a white tail doe. I have never hunted white tails so i dont know areas for them really. I already have my deer for the year
