decoy rigs?
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:29:41 PM »
What is every ones opinions of decoy rigs I'm can't decided between the rig em right Texas rig of the ace j weights. I hunt only 3-6 ft water with very minimal current if any at all. I am planning on getting a rig em right decoy bag as well. This bag says you can throw your Texas rigs in. So what do you guys think Texas rig or the ace weights?

I switched to the Texas rig and love them, makes it quicker to set up and tear down, decoys get kinda chipped banging into each other tho. I run cheap tangle frees anyway so no big deal.

That is all I'm using on ponds now; deep water or fast that's a different story,

I really dig the fact that the ace rigs don't tangle up in the bag.... but...
with thier crappy bungie cords....   about every year or so, you have to replace them because they are rubber, and just get stretched out and worn out and break.

We have our own secret family rig.... home made anchor.    ;)
They are super slick to throw out, but take ages to pick up at the end of the day when your exhausted. lol.....

Which is why I bought a few Aces.... but in hindsight.... they are good brand new, but don't age well.

If you are for SURE only hunting a certain water depth forever.... Texas rigs are hard to beat.
But, god forbid you throw one in a bit too deep.... you may lose it forever.

A mix is good so you can always switch it up.

Whats the need for secret anchors? I've made several home made ones. I started out with small concrete ones in dixie cups, and have used concrete ones for gange lines...  I think basic mushroom ancors work pretty good for gang lines...

If you're only hunting water 3-6' deep I'd go with a Texas rig. You can get the egg weights and the 400lb mono and the clips and make your own to the length you want. My buddy has about 10 dozen that we use. Texas rigs go in the shallow water and the "H" anchor decoys go in the deeper water.

The spots i hunt the water can be 2' and 15' in another area. I run the Tanglefree PVC line with depth adjusters and GHG keel grabber 4oz weights. I now have some places i can hunt that only get 4' deep max. Im going to build another set of deeks with the texas rigs for that come next year.
