BackStrappin Has BackStrap
« on: October 28, 2014, 05:12:14 PM »
   I am going to start out by saying this season was a tough one .  Being that I live Close to some Good ground to hunt I was able to hunt just about every day of the season.  Usually in the evening or a an hour or in the morning.

I kinda new that I was putting too much into the early season knowing that it doesnt get good until this time of year but I spent a ton of time out scouting in the summer so I figured my odds would be a bit better for early success .

The last 2 weeks I seen alot of deer but no bucks , I admit I was getting kinda worried .  The pressure the area was getting was turning me off a bit .  But I knew I just had to be paitence and wait for those Bucks to get in the rut .

And well it's looking like they are just about in full swing ...   So this morning I  Set out in the early AM with a new found energy after reading Post here on the board about members blacktails that they bagged over the weekend.

I mostly hunt from my quad and today was a day you had to be crazy to do so... I get up to the cut I wanted to hunt about an hour before light and its just blowing rain and I see a few flashes of lighting.. So With no place to take cover and not wanting to risk a lighting bolt to the head I head back in the blowing rain...  :o  Made some coffee hung out in the garage for a bit and started second guessing myself for heading in.  So 30 mins later I back out .   At this point I am soaked to the bone without even hunting .   I get to the top of the hill and The cut I was wanting check out was not going to happen .. The Fog/Clouds Rain were blowing straight up into ..  So There was an area down the road a bit that I knew held a deer or two and figured it would be a bit more shielded from the weather, And it was.

But here I was up on top of this great cut trying to glass but my Bino's were so wet and fogged that they did me no good .  So at this point I was pretty much thinking my only option was to hit the timber or see something close with my eyes .   The plan was to head down to the bottom of the cut along the road and then go hit some timber.. On the way down Two does run out on the road . Stopped and Waited for a buck but nothing was with so Down the road I go and That when I notice A deer in the Corner of my eye, and I could tell it was a doe , So i Jump off the quad and I see Two white patches Standing tall . Throw the bino's up couldnt make out what it was.  So I stand motion less trying to sneak closer into the cut along some alders .  Take a few more steps , and this deer wasn't moving.  All the signs were there that this was a buck but I just couldnt comfirm.  So I just stood my ground and when this deer would put its head down I would move closer . So now I am about 125 yards away I could tell it was getting closer to bolting towards the timber .  I made one last push to a stump and put a scope on it and all I can say was ... Thank god that scope wasn't fogged up .  I had about 5 seconds from putting the scope on it and seeing the Wood to pulling the trigger .  One Shot right into his heart with a 130 grain sst and he was done.  It all happened so quick but felt like hours.

So There it is . My season in a nutshell is over .  You wait all year for it and its over with a pull of the trigger. ;)

Good Luck everyone. Get out if you Can because the deer are on the move.
