What would you do?
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:20:09 PM »
I had been watching 2 big bucks for the last three weeks they are on private land that I can hunt but choose not to when the owners are hunting. I hunt state land right next to it.
Anyway after 4 hours of waiting I decided to go see if the deer were in a field over the hill.
On my way out I noticed a pick up pulling a little enclosed trailer nothing odd about that
Well I got in my truck and drove around the corner and I see the truck stopped but it was facing towards me
So I figured he seen the deer and was watching them. So I asked did you see the big bucks and he said ya they just ran over the hill. The. He drove off he seemed nervous though. So I drove slow where he was parked and there was a puddle of blood and 30 yards away were two rifle casings
As I turned around he was was coming back towards me. As he pulled up I said did you hit it with your truck or did you poach it and lie.  Then he said well they jump the fence and were in the middle of the road my boy got out and shot it in the ditch from the side of the road. Granted he was a nice guy he apologized offered to give me the deer. I refused and said I'd turn my own son in for that. Glad to see your teaching your son to road hunt and be a poacher. What would you do?

Get a plate, turn it in.  Way too many trespassers cruising public roads looking for a critter to shoot on private land, planning to do the jump-gun-dash.  And, way too many who do, get spooked and leave it to waste.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I'd write down his info and turn him in. Not for points, because it is the right thing to do.
