Red Bushes?
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:10:41 PM »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes.  I was hunting up in the lake wenatchee area and while looking for bears, I noticed that there were a ton of bush patches in the clearcuts that are bright red.  I am trying to figure out what type of plant it is.  I did see a few deer bed near and underneath but didn't notice them eating it.  I didn't have a camera, which would make this alot easier, but just was wondering what the plant was and if deer and maybe bears are eating off of it.  Thanks.

Vine maple is a good bet, there is also red-osier dogwood in the wetter spots.  Were the stems red too, or just the leaves?  Deer eat both, bears like the berries on the dogwood.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
