Are the bulls in southwest washington going off yet?
« on: September 08, 2007, 05:35:27 PM »
I went up to mount st. helens today and saw a couple cows but was very hesitant on whether or not to start calling. I heard bugling is not such a good thing to do so I have just been practicing with a cow call. Is it ok to just cow call as you go through the woods or will that make the elk call shy?

i'm certainly no expert here, but i think the majority on here will tell you to not call unless you are hunting, for fear of making them call-wise. they get call wise fast enough once season starts.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Yeah thats what I mean...when im out hunting is it good to cow call every now and then? Or should I wait later in the season as the rut starts to peak to start calling?
