Jakeland's 2014 BT Buck
« on: November 01, 2014, 09:29:54 PM »
My buck this year was well earned. I took the last week of October off from work this year to give myself a better chance of shooting a mature BT. It was hard passing on spikes, and 2 points along the way. The weather was classic BT weather just about the entire week, very wet.The closer it got to the end of the week, the more I was doubting the decision of passing on previous bucks.
Thursday started out the same as the other mornings. Get up at 3:00am, get to the gate at 4:00am, ride my mt bike 4.5 miles back, change into my dry clothes,  put on my raingear, and get settled into my spot about 6:30. This morning, like every morning the anticipation built the lighter it became. Than by about 10:00am, I began doubting myself about location......am I to high? clearcut to fresh? I decided to work my way down the cut about 400ft for the evening hunt. As soon as I walked out I instantly saw a doe. I looked out beyond the doe, and on the other side of the cut I see this guy come out of timber with 2 does.  He was heading strait down the timber line away from me at about 400yards. A little out of my range, so I started running down the opposite side to get into range.( there was a hogsback between us that I used for cover) When I get to about 230yds I take a shot, and hit him in the neck. 2nd shot also hit him in the neck, and put him down.
He's not the biggest buck, but defiantly a mature buck. He has a pretty knarly rack, with some damage that must have happened while in velvet. I had a great time, and can't wait until next year.

Thanx specially to Turner89 we did a lot of scouting and hunting together and him telling me to stay STRONG meaning let the small bucks go and grow and a good game plan for that night this buck was harvested. Now it's time to enjoy those tasty steaks that we processed together last Saturday and start putting cameras out to start the game plan for next season

I'm pretty sure it was damaged while in velvet just the way it looked but I'm no expert
