Idaho Whitetail
« on: November 04, 2014, 02:57:54 PM »
I just had a vacation dropped in my lap.(Nov 15-25) I want to take my daughter to Idaho Whitetail hunting. I have never hunted whitetail always Muleys. Any suggestions on where to go to make this a start of great thing to come with her! I have been thinking panhandle priest lake area although she lives in Boise and closer is better but anywhere we will have opportunities.

Used to be some great deer hunting around headquarters just north of orofino.  I haven't hunted it for deer in years, only elk. The late season is supposed to be a blast. Nice camping spots, clear cuts and quad only gates.

If you're looking for an action packed week of deer hunting I wouldn't recommend the Priest Lake area; I'd focus farther South.

Hate to give away my "secret spot, :chuckle:" but hunt the plateaus and ridges above Riggins and you should see game.  Careful of the mulies, though.  It's a whitetail only unit.

I seen a pic of a 200" whitetail from headquarters that was taken last year, it's a damn pig.

Thanks for info..I have heard some good things about the Orofino / Dworshak res.area. also a little about Riggins, debating whether or not to take the quad but it may be useful.

the quad is a must in my opinion, especially in the headquarters area. Cover ground that time of year!

Pierce Idaho above Orofino has some good whitetails too.  Look into the Jr. mentor tag as it is cheap.  Both of my kids were able to hunt for just shy of $55 this year (non-resident).  If your daughter is 17 or under she is eligible for the Jr. mentor tag as long as an adult is hunting with her close by.
