My first Buck
« on: November 12, 2014, 10:10:38 PM »
My second year hunting and I finally closed the deal. I grew up in a non hunting household so I'm starting a little late. Thanks to some friends and this forum Ive learned quite a bit.  Obviously still have a ton to learn.  My uncle bought a nice piece of land and he game me the permission to hunt.  I hunted the early season but could not get it done.  I passed over 8 different bucks but I was set on what I thought was a respectable White Tail.  This morning at first light this guy came trotting out by himself like he was Billy *censored*.  He circled the field and stopped to feed.  I glassed him and counted 5x4 counting eye guards. BUCK FEVER set in!  I was shaking like a leaf! I ranged him at 163 yards.  Took a couple deep breaths put him in the the cross hares and slowly squeezed the trigger on the 30.06.  Lights out.  He fell on impact and didnt get up.  I thought my heart was going to come out of my chest!  Waited about 10 minutes and went to recover.  I field dressed him like i learned on Youtube.  lol.  When it was time to skin I reluctantly called a friend who left work to give me a hand.  I do not take harvesting an animal lightly.  I have a huge amount of respect for animals and was glad to have a quick humane kill.  Hes not a masher like many of you post but he is my first.  Thank you to this forum for the motivation and knowledge many of you share.

That's a great buck. I have yet to take a deer that big in 14 years of hunting. Im hoping to get a decent one when archery season rolls around at some land I just purchased in august! Great buck though that one will still be hard to bear in your future years of hunting.

:hello: Nice Buck Boogie! You've only been hunting a couple years and you pounded that Buck? That dude is a dang nice animal. A lot of guys hunt for a very long time before taking something that nice. Congratulations on a beautiful Buck...

Hey Boogie, good job bagging your first deer!
I was raised in a non-hunting household also, but that didn't stop me.
In the fall, after school was out for the day I'd take our family dog and hike a short distance to some nearby fields for upland birds. Then I got the deer fever, (Not Lyme Disease)  elk fever, and worst of all TURKEY FEVER!

Dude that's a really nice whitetail , most have never killed one like that. Including me my first whitetail was a dink spike and it's my only whitetail.

Keep at it boogieman you have some nice propert to hunt it looks like.

Thank you all for the nice words.  Hunting has somewhat taken over my life!  Its all i ever think about..  I have an archery elk tag that needs punched.  Hoping to find a fat cow over Thanksgiving in the Cowichee..I spend my evening shooting arrows in the backyard waiting for the day.
