GMU 215 turkey
« on: April 16, 2014, 09:47:15 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and for that matter new to turkey hunting. I found this website and have read back and looked over a lot of the information here, as a new guy I just wanted to say thank you for putting so much information for guys like me!
I live in the Seattle area and have been gearing up and doing my research to get out there and try my hand at bagging a turkey.
I'm headed north east next week to spend a few days going after it, and I was hoping that I could ask a few quick questions of some of you seasoned vets. If I'm asking anything that you don't want to publicly state, please feel free to PM me.

I have hunted on the east side for deer in the late summer/early fall (bow) over the last 6 or so years, I have a place I have run into turkey in GMU 215 (Sinlahekin) on more than one occasion. Not really knowing where else to go, I thought I would start there.

I was having a conversation with a gentleman at one of the local sporting good stores here in Seattle last night and he said there use to be good turkey there but they were all killed off in some crazy sounding massacre...

I don't know if he was trying to legitimately give me some good info, or just talking for the sake of talking (I don't know this guy at all, just happened to be standing in front of the turkey calls at the same time)

Does anyone know anything about this, is there any truth to it?

Is that area a waste of time?

Thank you all for any help you can give this first time Turkey hunter. And again great website!

All the best,
Speakeasy

Welcome aboard. I'll hopefully be out as well. I work in Seattle.

Here's a couple of links to public land maps: http://mapmet.com/Game/TractsMap.html

Which of these areas is not good to hunt publicly ? Not sure what any of those map terms stand for.

Welcome.

Be sure to check the regs depending on if you are thinking of going turkey hunting in the spring vs fall.  Not all of the GMUs are open in the fall seasons.
