Got my first Turkey today. Got Drawn for the late Teanaway Tag. Wanted to take my son with me but he had a stomach bug. Still had a lot of fun!

No, wife is a little worried it will be strong tasting. Going to brine it and smoke it some time between Thanksgiving and Christmas

       Not like a deer in rut .... turkey tastes like turkey any time of the year.

Turkeydancer, Wife was told wild turkey can be very different from farmed turkey. she will try it but doesn't want to try it for Tday. I think it will be good. Raised some turkeys many years ago, other than being a little skinnier, seemed the same.

Wild turkeys' breast are a little smaller since they are not artificially enhanced .... and the wild turkeys' legs are a lot longer than domest5ic.  What we know as a "domestic" turkey was a Mexican subspecies that was captured and taken back to Europe and is now extinct in the wild. "Wild" turkeys still taste like "domestic" turkeys ... even though my friends and family says wild tastes better, I never noticed a differnce in the taste.

BTW, the legs & thighs of wild birds can be on the chewy side. Cooked low & slow is the way to go.

would you recommend that area ? we just drove up to colville these past few days without any luck (but then again, we are beginners) and we are from the seattle area, Cle Elum is a whole lot closer!

I've hunted the 121 GMU quite a bit and there are way more birds up there. Teanaway has a few birds (most on Private Property).  I would put in for late permit again and I will hunt it again in the spring, but I live here.
