What is the oldest gun....

An English 16ga Muzzle loader converted to breech loader here in the US before the turn of the century.  Proof marks are obscured so hard to date, 1840 to 1900.  I hunted with it in the 1960's with many ducks, pheasants, grouse, and woodcock to its credit.  I knew nothing of Damascus or chamber lengths and ran JC Higgins high brass, paper cased, roll crimped #5's through it, it never missed a beat.  It graces my sisters living room wall with other memorabilia of turn of the century northern WI.  Her home is the Weyerhauser managers house and her old store was the original Weyerhauser company store from the early logging days in WI.

I have a single shot .44 that someone smoothed out the grooves and now shoots .410 made late 1800's.  Granddad handed down to me when I was growing up.  Shot plenty of grouse, rabbit and squirrels with it.

1923 Savage 99 takedown in 250-3000.  Killed a couple deer and a half dozen bear with it.  My grandmother killed a 55" moose with it back in the 70's.  Wife killed her first 450# bear with it.  It has been a great shooter, but now retired.

I'm using the same, but not sure the year.  Fun to shoot, but with the 1/14" twist and the scarcity of reloading components kind of hard to take it out much.

Thanks for the responses guy's very cool guns  I find it really interesting to hear about these old firearms.I haven't taken any game with any really old guns the oldest rifle i have taken game with is my dads 1985 BLR in .358win I took a whitetail buck two years ago it was a cool feeling to take a deer with my dads first and only deer rifle bought the year i was born especially since my 14 day old son was on that hunting trip with us also

This is the shotgun I've been hunting ducks with for the past couple years.  Husqvarna 51, in production from 1911 to 1947.  Still works just fine,  ammo is the challenge, handloaded 12ga 2.5" soft nontoxics.

Does that mean the tungsten filled plastic shot?

It's BP's ITX shot which is listed as tungsten/iron with a propriety binder(maybe plastic), it works very good and from the recovered shot doesn't deform or fracture.  I've used Nice Shot also but it is more expensive and I find no improvement.  There is Bismuth shot that I've used in factory shells but never handloaded as it is also more expensive and I see no improvement over ITX.

The costs are about $35/box but my round count is way down from steel out of a modern gun.  I believe that is more due to waiting for better shots and passing on the marginal ones, for the same reason I have far fewer cripples that need to be shot on the water.  Suprisingly my bird count for the season has stayed the same or actually gone up.

Nice picture and cool old gun.  I've been thinking of getting an old 30-30 and whacking a bear up close and personal.  I have a picture of my great grandfather and a big bear using a gun just like that.  Think it would be cool to have an antiqued picture wearing the same old clothes and shooting the same old gun and marrying the images so we are standing side by side.

I havent killed anything with it but i have a double barrel shotgun stamped 1872.  I need to research the manufacture.

Mine is a 1956 winchester model 88 .308.  Took a bear and a whitetail buck with it this year.  Gun built 26 years before i was born so thats old to me

Sixty-ish yards with cheap factory Winchester ammo. I had added the Marble tang sight just a week before, and absolutely love it. It just feels right carrying that gun in the woods. (Although in this case, it was grab it out of the back seat, throw a couple rounds in, and let it rip)
