Okay guys.  I think I am starting to understand the process a little better now.  Thanks for all the tips.  Another couple quick questions.  I started sorting through some of the special permits and a couple caught my attention because they fall around Thanksgiving and Christmas time.  One of them is an any bull tag for GMU 149 (Prescott) that occurs from 11/17-11/30 and 12/16-12/31.  The other is an any bull tag for GMU 335 that occurs 12/17-12/31.  Because of my work schedule and the fact that I already take time off work up here for moose and caribou, these dates would work out great for me and my wife to come down to visit.  I am wondering if these are decent areas or if I am better off looking elsewhere.  Again not looking for specifics locations, just any general info would be helpful.  Thanks.

You can't count on the hunts you are looking at now. They change the process every year depending on results the year before and herd impact. Those hunts may not even happen next year or they may have different dates. You really won't know this far in advance until next years game laws come out...hope that helps....you might also have to hire an attorney just to get through our regulations (:.....good luck ans welcome to the site....Les

Check out overall draw odds for elk permits at this link. Getting a quality elk permit in Washington is very difficult. One in 20 years is not at all unusual. Best wishes.

:yeah:

A guy can have a great Elk camping trip with family every year because on average the OTC Elk tags are a less than 10 percent success rate. Actually closer to five percent in some areas, but special draw will increase odds to 40-60 percent or better that is why it is so hard to draw. Check out the harvest reports as well that is some good reading for an Alaskan  :chuckle:
