Decisions
« on: November 23, 2014, 06:33:28 PM »
Always buy my east side tag with hopes of drawing a special permit for the unit we hunt, have yet to draw one but I'm dying to kill an elk. I've hunted muzzy west side one year and saw one cow all season. My pops has done and seen it all and isn't real motivated to pack out a spike (neither am I) but on the flip side we could hunt the west side and chase bulls but we have no idea where to go west side and I'd hate to waste a season. Should I keep hopin for an any bull tag or try an persue Roosevelt's for a year? I've got elk fever. Here's two of the many branched antler bulls we've seen in our unit on the east side. It's pretty normal to see a 6x6 daily.

I think it will be tough pickings to hunt the west side for a year. Usually takes years of learning an area to be really successful from what I see. If you want that bull permit you won't get it if you stop putting in for it  :twocents:

And with all the negative things going on in the west side I'm having a hard time finding it enjoyable... (Weyco permits, hoof rot, etc) :twocents:

Solid points, I think I'm just going to try and wait out for a quality tag. Thanks for the info!

haha there's tons of big bulls in the Colockum heard. No matter where you go. Manashtash, teanaway, naneum, Quilomene, taneum..they're everywhere but so few quality tags given out. This year during deer season I went out to the truck at around 10, clear night and could see every star in the sky and I counted 8 different bulls bugling back and forth lighting up the whole mountain all around me. It was the coolest thing I've ever heard.
