My first rifle and first shots
« on: December 26, 2014, 09:11:50 PM »
I bought my rifle Big thanks  to Split Diamond Tactical  for hooking me up  with a great deal  and mounting the  scope  for me.

Ruger American .30-06.  with a Vortex Diamondback.

This is my  first  rifle  i have ever owned and  today i took my  first shots EVER  with anything but a bb gun.

My  first  shot at  50 yards was about a 6 inches low and an inch off center.
Second shot one inch high two inches left

Third and 4th shot were 4 inches low and 1/2 inch off center to the right

New  target  my wife took one shot that missed  paper   the gun is too heavy  for her injured shoulder.

I took three more  shots  the  first shot  was  two inched low  but the last two  shots were in the center of the target.

As i said  this if the  first time i have ever shot a rifle  so you know it  was the  rifle and Split Diamonds work in setting it up..  I am amazed how mild the recoil is..

Now i need to  go to an actual shooting  range  with a bench to get it sighted in..

I anticipated going through a box of shells and not hitting paper at all  so for my last two shots to hit the bulls eye has me stoked..

looking for a new rifle?  Ruger American from Split  Diamond Tactical  totally impressed!!

Also  say 60+ deer on the  way home  one a nice 4x4

Great to hear. Very important to get out and shoot it! Difference between a good shot and a good shooter is practice and knowing your gun .

Sounds like you are right in the sweet spot. Now practice, practice, practice and then move the target out 50 yards or so. Soon you will be hitting the mark at a couple hundred yards. Have fun!

Thank you for the kind words Rob.

It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife and glad you are happy with the new rifle. It's a great combo with that vortex scope sitting on top. I hope you can put some venison in the freezer next year :IBCOOL:

Wow, pretty fun .i wish more people would realize  its a sport! Shooting paper and bettering yourself is just fun! You don't have too kill something too enjoy a firearm. Benton county has the best range I've. Been too.you can shoot out to 600 yards.and is a blast. 100yrds. Is fun. 200yards. More fun. 300, 400, your hooked.and they have a 1000yrd. Range on the hill. Kinda of a plug for rattlesnake mt. Range. Nice people, always have a good shoot their.

COOL

First couple of times shooting, Have your wife hold the rifle in real tight to her shoulder and shoot while standing. If you can get her to shoot again. Standing your body will have more give than sitting behind a bench or prone, have people shoot like this a couple of times to get use to the recoil. Get her a rifle too. The more you shoot correctly the better you both will get. Good Shooting.

She has had a Marlin 30-30 all her life.. The 06 was just too much. She has been begging me for years to take up hunting.
