Best consumer/home use video Camera

Whats you guys opinion on the best consumer/ home use video camera on the market.  My wife wants a small camera, she doesnt like using my bigger canon GL2, so whats good, maybe we can use it for a second while out in the woods.  Any opinions?

I thought you already had a video camera? What kind of videos are interested in making now? Your posting says "home use",  hmmmmmm interesting. I'm not sure if I want to see those vid's.

I was wondering the same thing. I want to get a gl2 but cant afford it right now

Make sure you get one with "HD".  Not sure which brands are the best, but I have seen some video from a consumer "HD" video camera and it was amazing.  I would also go with the hard drive model, lots of record time with no tapes to worry about.  Should be a great second camera to go with you new mac book.

Make sure you get one with at least 20x optical zoom and forget digital zoom.

That digital zoom is worthless, I turn it off when I can.

I like my GL2.  IT maybe a little bulky compared to the little sony cigarette pack models but the pic quality is much much better too...

I don't know them well, but I've got a little Sony that uses the mini dvd's, I've got nothing but praise for it. Really like it.

My FiL got a JVC hard drive camera, but he has the shakes so he doesn't use it much. I don't know if it's any good or not. I sure like that idea though. The mini dvd's are 30 min, the hard drive on that JVC is something like 30 hours!

I have a JVC harddrive camera. Certainly not the best but seems to work fine.

You guys are funny   Ive got a canon GL2 but my wife doesnt like it its to big, so she wants her own, so I bought her one of them little tiny jobs, Panasonic with the built in harddrive, to dang small for me.  Ya digital zoom is worthless.  The one thing that the canon Gl2 has over the Sony VX2100 is a higher zoom, the Sony is better in low light conditions though.

Yea, probably cheaper to let someone else take over payments.
