Hunter Ed and I594
« on: December 07, 2014, 08:20:30 AM »
How many of you that are Hunter Ed Instructors are still going to have live fire as part of your classes?
I still plan to put real rifles (22lr) in the hands of my students. After reading Mr. Whipples letter over and over
I am going to continue with my classes as I have in the past. I m taking the WDFW at it word. I am looking forward to the IST in March to see how this all gets ironed out.

We don't have our classes at established gun ranges, so live fire for adults will be illegal.

So my wife wants to hunt... she has taken the online course and now has to do range day. Been trying to get her into a range day for over a year now....how will she pass range day now since she is a adult? Bring her own gun?

Students are disallowed to bring their own firearms. Live fire is not required to pass and hasn't been for some time. That's not to say that students shouldn't fire a working firearm in the presence of a hunter ed instructor to ensure they'll be ready.

I was kind of hoping more guys would join in on the conversation, but I guess people are reluctant to jump up. My teaching team and I might be some of the more lucky ones, you could say, in that we teach at a range and have available  to us rifles that are kept at the range to use for live fire. We have one class prior to the IST in Wenatchee, so we plan on taking the Dept. at it's word, will see how it goes from there.

All I can say its a MESS!  I have read Mr. Whipples emails,  from what I read, students under 18 its ok to pass a firearm to them, over that they are adults and WDFW has NOT gotten any kind of confirmation on how the AG of the state is going to handle that issue!!

The "law" will have to be amended for sure!!  Won't hold my breath!

So much for WDFW being Pro-Active on this issue!!   Wolf time must be more important!

The WDFW back when the "hound","Bait" and "Leg hold trap" issue got passed, told us instructors at that years IST they were NO longer going to be "re-active" but become Pro-Active concerning "Sportsman" issues :bash:

Our "range day" is at a established range, BUT the firearms are NOT stored there so, 594 trumps our wishes! :bdid:
The only good tree, is a stump!
