I love my JK and hate the mileage , especially being chipped. And I would get excited about this save the fact that this will likly be pushing 50 grand on the showroom floor.

If it has the VM motor that is in the new 1500 dodge you can keep it!👎. I love my jeeps but those VM type motors with aluminum heads are crap. Hopefully they make changes to that line now that GM owns part of Fiat/VM :dunno:

I heard rumor way back about jeep using common rail Mercedes made diesels.... But wouldn't be surprised if they used those aluminum diesels....  But I also heard something about the new dura max diesels using a composite block with a turbo housing intergrated into the valley... Who knows what exactly is going to be under the hood... New Diesel engines are a weird bunch. I had a Jk rubicon for a few years, and I hated the engine it had... Those 3.8l v6 engines (before the 3.6 came out) are so delicate, I went through 2 motors before I finally got rid of my rubicon.... Sure I miss that thing a ton, but my 01 TJ is way more reliable... Personally I'm leaning towards a 4bt conversion on a jk. Or even my TJ...

Love my TJ but it does get crap for mileage.  I was actually surprised at how bad it is.  My 3/4 ton dodge gets better mileage.  With that said....you won't find a better rig for up in the hills.

Also heard that Jeep was going to an IFS at some point. Maybe that's the trade-off. You get the diesel but have to take the IFS because that's all we are going to build. Any body else heard about that?

Bought a new Rubicon in 09 and had it till Dec.2012.  Put a 2.5in AEV lift on it and AEV wheels with 33.5 BFG KM2's.  Can't wait to get a new another but I'll wait till the get all the little bugs worked out before I take the leap of faith.  But a new 4dr Rubi powered by a diesel with decent power and good fuel economy would be a nice change.  That 3.8L mini van motor in my 09 was the worst, most gutless, sorry excuse for a motor I've ever had in a vehicle.  Never had a Jeep I didn't like but that 3.8 motor is a weaksuck!  The inline 4.0 in my 99TJ was ten times the motor the 3.8 is and I don't care what their dyno sheet says.

Jeepster

The dodge sprint vans had the I-5 mecedies diesel backed by an auto transmission. My folks have a Mini Whinni with that combo that gets 18mpg and it got 14mpg towing thier PT cruizer to AZ and back!

Each company has produced bullet proof Diesels in other markets. Unfortuntly there has been a huge barrior in the US from BS emmsions and Exclusive Union contracts.  As state before Emissions are now more restrictive here than Europe!  :bash: Combine that with many of the Union Contracts by companies here that require the engine be made in the USA seems to prevent Bulletproof Diesels being widely availble.

I have customers in BC who have Toyota Hilux crew cab auto diesel that get 35mpg! I belive that there have been some strange bed fellows keeping us from the More efficient (on many levels) Diesel fuel system.

I think it will be difficult to be excited about these new rigs. MOST of the diesel motors thate were efficient AND relatively clean are now loosing thier luster now that all the tier 3-4 emmision crap is on them. Just look at the bulletproof cummins motor. Its evolution into the common rail meakes it supurb. Add on the Emmisions crap and it retards the milage by 2mpg... Just ask anyone who has done an EGR delet kit!

There's been talk of diesel JK's for a while now , won't believe it till they are on a lot. Then id still wait a few years till all the bugs are worked out. I love my TJ there's no way in getting rid of it for a JK anytime soon. And I always find it funny that Jeep owners complain about the gas mileage,  don't we realize that its a brick on wheels  :chuckle:.

It was a 2.8L and not really from Daimler. Was built by a branch of Detroit Diesel in Italy. If I remember correctly Daimler owned part of the company or something.
