Cerakoting an action
« on: December 17, 2014, 02:19:56 PM »
My 300 weatherby seems to rust up every time I take it out in the rain. I dry it and clean it good so there's no real damage to it, but on longer hunts it can get a little gummy and I need to fix it this year. My question is, how in the world do I get cerakote inside the action?

I've googled it and have read all sorts of stuff other than anyone talking about how they actually do it. The outside is easy, the bolt is easy, but I can't get a spray pattern inside obviously. Are there tricks to this?

Also, anyone have any feedback on coating the lugs vs leaving them? I've read it both ways...

Thanks a bunch

Cool, thats what I'm looking for. My internet searches had a lot of info on people going both ways.

How about the coating of the inside of the action? I've never had one done before, can't imagine how they get a spray pattern inside there... been googling and even asking our paint suppliers what they think could be used. Those of you with coated actions, did they paint the inside? Some applicators (and customers) choose to leave it bare metal.

I'm sure cerakoting the inside of most factory actions is not a problem. I had a custom stiller action and barrel cerakoted thinking the smith would know better than to cerakote the inside of the action. It caused all kinds of binding problems due to the tight tolerances of the action. Then he lapped the already lapped action...really irks me...  Used mek which seemed to smoothe out the cerakote and it works OK but will still bind up. Haven't figured out a good fix yet.
