My 2014 Euro
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:26:48 PM »
I thought I would post a pick of my 2014 Euro.  I took this blacktail with my muzzleloader at about 20yds.  I have never done any type of mount and reached out to my friend (Sundance) for guidance.  Sundance walked me through the skinning process as he worked on his buck.  He showed me some good techniques and stopped me from screwing up.  After some time we threw the skulls in the buckets for maceration.   The holidays, some travel family and business travel, combined with Sundance working behind the scene.  This is the finished product.  I haven't decided how I want to mount it, but I am very happy with the end result.  The pic looks a little dark as my dog doesn't like the flash.

Glad i did the maceration over boiling, the detail is awesome.

Congratulations again on a lifetime blacktail buck.  What a stud!  The buck, not you.   ;)

Sundance did a great job on this.  I have learned a lesson not to boil skulls.

Question: After this trophy buck, what do you do next?

PD, Made me happy I passed on the smaller ones earlier in the season that is for sure.  As you know I wanted something decent and got soooo lucky to get way beyond decent.  The odds of surpassing are looooow but, years ago I caught an est 30-31lbs steelhead  (44 1/2x?, didn't girth) 2 days after a 27-28lbers (42 1/2 x 22 1/2) both on flies, so anything is possible :)

Sundance-HA, I guess you will have to come over and drink some beers!! as you know I was going to put it in my home office.  I found out yesterday that it is "stylish" so the "she boss" has it in the living room (for now).  I will get it out of site and keep it on the DL in my office that way I can't be pried for answers.  Let me know when you put the final touch on yours I want to check them out.

Next, I want to get it officially scored and think about if I am going to send it for the "book". Then as we have discussed, I want to get  farther and deeper and try for a nice mule deer or maybe spend sometime where we went pheasant hunting and look for a nice whitetail.

So I have said many times I have caught the largest steelhead I ever will catch and am content, I feel similar with blacktail.
