Grays River cow tag
« on: January 10, 2015, 11:25:38 PM »
I'm one of the 5 old "over 65" guys who drew a cow tag for the Grays River area.  There are about 15 sections of land around Eden that are included in this hunt. Must hunt within 1 mile of farm land. Hunt starts 1/16. I've asked for permission to hunt at two farms yesterday with no luck. Going down Tuesday and start knocking on doors again. Anyone know of a farmer who may be open to a hunt?

I was have wondering about that tag myself. I put my son in for one of the youth hunts, but he wasn't successful. Check out the wdfw go hunt page. One of the farmers has enrolled his fields in the feel free to hunt program.the last several times we've gone to the beach we have seen elk either in the fields or crossing the road just before fossil creek rd.

Goosegunner, thanks for the tip.  I will check out the "feel free to hunt" data.

There's a cow laying in the field on the west end of km with hoof rot. Call the warden down here and see if they'll let you shoot that one. That's the point of all these extra tags down here isn't it, to help get rid of the hoof rot?

id imagine calling the local warden or bio would get you headed in the right direction or even connected to a farmer.

Fish and game should have sent you a letter for a person to contact that will provide you a list of land owner's in the area that are willing to give permission to access their property.  My son had the tag in December.   We had success with most of the land owners, but one declined.  If you can reserve the field through hunt access on the wdfw website I would go with that.  We saw elk in that field numerous days.  Another land owner to contact is Mr. Seer on Covered Bridge Rd.  He'll want to meet you in person before he gives permission.

We got permission from a couple farmers on Eden Valley Rd., but they all said they hadn't seen the elk in there all year.

Good luck with your hunt!

Correction on the land owner name.  That should have said Mr. Zerr. Auto correct drives me nuts sometimes!
