Lunar Eclipse - Get your cameras ready!
« on: April 03, 2015, 03:24:33 PM »
Quote
SEATTLE -- Usually Saturdays are made for sleeping in but if you want to get up super early this Saturday, you might just catch a lunar eclipse.

Scientists expect totality - when the full moon is completely obscured by Earth's shadow - to last just several minutes, beginning at 4:57 a.m. PDT. Most of the eclipsed moon should appear reddish-orange.

For the Seattle area, the moon will darken at 2:01 a.m. with the eclipse beginning at 3:15 a.m.

The moon will be totally eclipsed for just 5 minutes -- from between 4:57 a.m. and 5:02 a.m. then will regain brightness until it's back to full circle of light at 6:44 a.m., right before it sets on the horizon.

The weather is looking like decent odds the clouds will clear enough overnight to see it. Just look for the moon in the western horizon -- that is, if you want to get up that early.

Blood red moon. I hope the sky will let us see it.
Just one more day

I read it as the total eclipse will be at 4:57am and last only 5 minutes, but the eclipse itself starts at 3:15am.

Bean that's a great shot, super clear sky last year.

Blood red moon. I hope the sky will let us see it.

I hope so too!

I froze my face off for 2 hours trying to get a good picture... Oh well I had fun and learned a little, still not used to using manual. I couldn't get it to focus but I think I need a much better lens to capture that.
