2015 Dodge Ram 2500 MPG?

I am looking at getting a 2015 Ram 2500 4 door crew cab but I can't find any MPG specs anywhere. I am leaning toward the diesel since I drive about 40k miles a year and it will last longer. After 3 years, I will retire it as a farm truck and buy another rig. If anyone out there has a gas or diesel in a 2012 or newer with FACTORY SIZE TIRES AND NO LIFT, can you let me know what you are getting for MPG? Thanks guys.

We drove my grandpa's 2014 to Montana last year.  Towing a heavy travel trailer we average 9mpg.  The 6.7 isn't known for its fuel milage.  I've heard they are working on making them for fuel efficient.

Our '14 3500 diesel gets 19 empty on the highway, 16 - 17 with a 2 horse trailer.  If I remember correctly it got 14 or so over the pass with a 19 ft travel trailer. I've heard the manual tranny gets better mileage but I'm extremely pleased with the auto, especially when towing.

I'm looking at getting the manual, the AISIN has my interest though.  I'm gun shy on auto's with hauling heavy up and over long hot and slow dirt roads.  The slow speeds build a lot of heat.  Replaced too many auto's in the 2nd gen.

My 14 2500 with stock 20 inch wheels and 1500 miles says it is getting 11.1 mpg avg tonight. It gets 2 mpg climbing hills and 99 mpg going back down those hills My 05 will average 25 mpg on level roads. But with this new truck I don't have to worry about filters, injectors, def, etc, just push a button twice and it will start and warm steering wheel and seats. Plus gas is just a little cheaper.

Boy from the sounds of it the diesel would be the way to go. thats down right horrible gas milage. Person would have a tendency to drive a gas powered one less as a result. Have to figure the fuel prices aren't going to stay this way very long.

Friend has a 14 1500 3cyl diesel. Getting 21 mph around town and 24+ on the highway. Seems to have plenty of power to pull  recreational sized trailers and board as well.

I looked at these but they don't come with an 8' bed and they are just as much as a 3/4 ton. The company I work for pays for my fuel so there isn't much of a difference in mpg between the 1500 and 2500 diesels for me to worry about. It looks like I may go diesel, especially since the gas engines are only getting 10-15 mpg.

  I just read a test by Car and Driver, 2500 diesel 2015, they got 16mpg over all in the test.

Caution, Thread jack. (since you seem to have answers of poor fuel economy)  Funny... You said that fuel is free, so it doesn't matter. I'm so confused. 

I am NOT impressed with any of the big 3 consumer diesel truck options right now.  I have over 200,000 miles on my 04 6.0 Ford with ZF6spd and in the next couple years I'm likely to upgrade. (Yes, I'll be doing the EGR delete this spring) I'm not a farmer/rancher, and don't 'wear out' a truck like some do.  But when it's time, I think I'll be looking for a late second gen Dodge. My son picked one up with a 5.9 HO and the NV5600 manual transmission and that thing is a beast that still has good fuel economy.  I think the best deal out there instead of a new LoneStar with a 6.7 and 6spd manual would be to find an early 3rd gen with an NV5600 in good shape, rebuild anything in the drivetrain that needs it, outfit it with some cool aftermarket goodies. Call it good! You can find a nice older truck in the $20's and have a beast that gets good fuel economy. If you have to, dump another $10k into it and have a better 'truck' than what you can buy new for in the $50k range now.  I hate all the platform changes and current generation design flaws that aren't worked out yet.

Did you get the 6.4 hemi in your new truck?

Dumping 10k in an older truck is good in theory, but unless you enjoy turning wrenches this is not the way to go.  I dumped $20k into a 2nd gen and it's still an old truck, and I want a newer one.  Running gear wise it's a beast, radiator to rear diff cover is upgraded, beefed up or gone through.

In my case though it's because I'm farming and ranching I need a manual g56 six speed transmission, exhaust brake, crew cab, 12foot flatbed and dual rear wheels just like the big boys have 

The 1995 2500 4x4 x-cab auto 47rh isn't cutting the mustard hauling hay up mountain roads, just sheer's the transmission fluid and I've got 200+ degree transmission oil in no time flat.  I'm running an inline oil cooler with electric fan on a thermostat, and an aluminum finned deep mag-hytec tranny oil pan that holds an extra gallon of transmission oil over stock capacity in addition to the factory front oil cooler - it still gets hot right away. 

Next thing is to install a torque converter lockup switch for the heavy long sloooow pulls,  let the triple disk torque converter handle the load, because the clutch pack won't do it.  The clutch pack is upgraded too, billet basket with HD clutch plates and billet input shafts and I'm also running a higher pressure VB to squeeze those clutches harders and still it slips and heats oil like...like I dunno but it sucks.


I used to enjoy turning wrenches on this truck but it's old, I'm not interested anymore and I've got plenty of other things that need a wrench

My buddy has a 2014 Dodge 4 door crew, 4x4, diesel, auto and gets 19 mpg. I bet it has less than 5000 miles on it.

No such thing as a new Ford with a manual transmission unless you go to a F550, and then there's no such thing as 4x4.
