New to Seattle
« on: February 15, 2015, 10:52:58 AM »
Hi all,

I just moved to Seattle from Alaska to join the Seattle Police Department. Once I get some time I would like to get out and enjoy some time hunting again. Deer would be my first choice of game, but at the end of the day I don't really care as long as I'm out in the woods. Where/what could I hunt somewhat locally?

Once I get settled, I'd like to start making some longer trips out east. I hear there are some great hunts in eastern WA. What do y'all see as my choices for not knowing anything or anyone here in WA?

Thanks for all input.

Just recently, the majority of the timber companies have began restricting access to their land in western Washington. So to hunt blacktail deer, especially with you being new to the state, your best option may be to spend the money and purchase an access pass from one of the timber companies. They generally cost $150 to $300.

I believe the closest for you would be the Snoqualmie tree farm.

Another option is state land, which is managed by the Department of Natural Resources. You can purchase "Public Land Maps" online, which are made by the DNR and sold by the Department of Printing.

Go for bear and grouse in western Washington and deer in eastern. Okanogan area for mule deer and NE for whitetail.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Don't forget all the required access passes.  Discover Pass, etc before you start scouting.

Last season, I hunted ducks once with a group that included a Seattle policeman. So I know you're close to a good resource. Sorry, can't remember his name.
