Washington Cougar Bill Dies
« on: March 21, 2015, 09:03:03 PM »
House Bill 5940 that would allow several counties that are plagued with cougar problems to reintroduce hound hunting to manage cougars again.  The Senate Natural Resource committee passed it overwhelmingly with a bipartisan vote.  The Bill never made it to the floor to be voted on due to time being gobbled by other bills.
Again the green senators stabbed the hunters and livestock owners in the back.  It's amazing how the west side representatives have no sympathy for the east side.  They could care less if our livestock and even kids get killed off.  It was only one year ago the little girl had to shoot a cougar following her brother into the house.  The same ranch had a calf killed by a cougar and they tracked two others down on foot and killed them.   That rancher went to court and requested compensation for the calf but was denied because WDFW had no money for compensation even though a law was passed requiring the state to compensate.
Just hope they try again next year so we on the east side may some day get some relief.

I just looked up the law that was passed to require the state to pay for livestock losses by cougars in case anybody wants to know.   RCW 77.36.100 and the WACs explaining it are 232-36-200 and 232-36-210
One would think if a rancher loses a calf and an enforcement officer came and confirmed it with a written report a judge would have required the state to pay up especially since the law requires it.  The judge denied the request due to no money in the pot.  Sickening.!   If you get a fine for a game violation you will not be excused of the fine if your broke.

Really sad! Gotta love the bunny huggers. Put them cats in there back yard and see how they feel about it then. I really don't understand how they don't have any funds to pay farmers for there losses. Hmmm, I guess if all wdfw monies didn't go to the general fund there would be some money. But I guess that would make to much sense.
