Primer ??????
«
on:
March 02, 2015, 03:04:39 PM »
I grabed 3 pack sof Small Riffle Primer over the weekend and when I got home noticed theye were "Magnum" primer
Can I still use them in laoding for my AR (.223)
I talked with a friend and he said "yes, but you have to reduce the powder charge". so I asked him by how much and his answer was
Any one got any more insite on this, can I use them or should I use them, if so how?
or should i just bagg them and chalk it up to my own stupidity for not looking more closely

I'm not sure about the .223 but CCI 450 small rifle magnum primers are all I use in my 6.5 Grendel's.

I have run 450's in all my 223's for years. I never really load max charges and I have had zero issues. Certain powders "like some of the ball powders" even call for the magnum's.

You should be fine. Just don't reach max load.

CCI 450 is what i got. I will just keep them down towards the minimal site of the chart. There just for plinking any ways.

You will be fine. Do you have a chrono? Many times "magnum" primers add very little if anything. Max published is just a guide anyway, not a rule.

gasman it's all good. CCI 450 mags are just a tad warmer. The main advantage is they have thicker walls. Lower the chance of slam fires in autos. I used them all the time nothing to get to excited about. 400 for bolt guns 450 for autos no worries or 450 for everything. Not that big of a deal
