New Lehigh XP - Extreme Penetrator Bullet

Lehigh has been building and expanding their line of bullets - offering new innovations along with the new bullets and of course the re-designed fracturing bullets.

One of the new bullets is the XP for Exteme Penetration.  It is a non-expanding solid copper bullet for pistols. And solid brass for rifles and muzzleloader.

This is a picture of the new muzzleloader XP brass bullet.  These are 40x200 grain.



I know as soon as I said 'non-expanding' a lot of you probably turned the interest weigh down... but like the old statement - BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE and there is read on...

This morning I found a video of the testing of this new bullet.

It is a non-expanding bullet but produces a wound channel very similar to a expanding hollow point hunting bullet EXCEPT that it penetrates a lot further creating an extended wound channel.

This video shows the performance of copper XP pistols bullets, the line muzzleloader line of 'XP's" will be brass and will create an even larger-longer wound channel.

Most states ban non expanding (FMJ) bullets for big game hunting. Check your laws before using a non expanding bullet.

After searching WA regs I seem to not find any reference to FMJ and I know you are not instate, anyone else want to set me straight on this issue I would me much obliged.

I have watched several different videos and they are most impressive. I have been wanting to drop bullet weight to increase a flat trajectory yet retain killing power, are there any charts out there with statistics or is this all to new and testing must be done on an individual basis?

There is no law makes the use of non-expanding bullets illegal for hunting in Washington state.

With the bullet pictured - I use a MMP Light Tan sabot (40x45) in a 45 rifle.  MMP does make a blue 40x50 sabot also.  And I am sure that Harvester offers similar sabots.

As I understand it they are just starting production of the Muzzleloader type bullets and not all the information is not on the web site yet.  There are comparable pistol bullets listed on the site now, but the brass ML bullets are said to offer a greater advantage over the copper bullets.

The ML line of bullets will offer wide variety of different types of bullets plus size and weight combinations.

As I find out more I will post the information...

 I found this video late last night it is pretty cool as the copper projectile was fired from a muzzleloader at 2000 fps into gel block, recovered and the shooter said he could fire it again! Great selling point was exclaimed in the background!

Lehigh Production - The plans are at this moment to get four of the listed muzzleloading brass bullets produced in volume in the next three weeks.  They will be available for purchase only from Lehigh Defense initially.

The bullets should start appearing on the Web-Site very soon.

Sabotloader:    Just curious whether you're considering hunting with these nonexpanding bullets.    Interesting read on the wound channel.    What kind of velocity would you need to maintain a good wound channel (how far can you shoot these at game)?

They will be coming later after they get te new lines up and running.  But actually they do offer a .458x305 grain bullet intended for the 45-70 in the Controlled Fracturing bullet.

That is the bullet that I use for Elk and two poor whitetails that in frustration I shot while elk hunting.

Yes, I am going to try the 40-200 or 40-230 XP on deer this next season - I just have to satisfy my own mind.  I already know the XP will not offer the big burst of shock the CF bullets offer after they enter the liquid confines of the chest cavity. But jell testing has shown they do provide a significant rupturing effect. So ya - I will try one at least once.

If you use can use pistol information a 45-250XP shot from a 45 Colt traveling at 850 FPS will give you 28" of penetration and 1"+ wound channel - It APPEARS to me they would be easily good to 200 yards from a ML - but right now at this very moment I really do not know.

I did order some 40x200's and they are suppose to be here today and I hope to do some preliminary testing tomorrow at the farm.
