so I might maybe go black bear hunting this year and I just realized is it a lottery like moose hunting? or do you just buy a tag and hunt?

Lottery for spring season, over the counter for fall season.

In the fall, it is over the counter. Spring season is special permit draw only.

And the date of open season is different for different units, read the regs carefully. Any questions just ask us!
