Model 94 30-30
« on: March 13, 2015, 12:13:02 PM »
I work with a guy who just inherited his fathers Model 94 30-30.  His father recently passed and he knows his father bought the gun before he was born (he's 56) and, amazingly, never shot it. Says his dad was going to take up hunting but never did and he is not interested in hunting himself.  He's thinking of selling it and I'm obviously interested in buying it (would match nicely with the model 94 32spec. I recently inheirited).  I asked him to get me the serial number off it so I can determine the manufacture date, but I'm curious if anyone on here might have an estimated value on something like this. He swears the gun has never been fired.

Depends upon what shape it is in.  Just because it was never fired, doesn't mean it is in 100% condition.  People improperly store firearms all the time (surface rust, blueing wear, stocks scratches dings etc.).  Pre-64 (MFR'd before 1964) model 94's are more desirable to collectors than the later made ones.  Have him get some pictures of it and share them with us, to get an accurate estimate.   :dunno:  The price of 94's went kind of crazy when they quit building them in the U.S. then they started making limited runs produced in Japan.

Thanks Headshot-I've already told him to get the number and then bring it in for me to look at.  Same thing I told him, just because it's not been shot doesn't make it in great condition.  Told him it was a shame for a gun like that to just be sitting in a closet unused and under appreciated. I'll get pics and post.
