Rudder Hickory Flat Bow Kit

Anybody have experience with building one of these? There's a couple of youtube videos where the process is demonstrated. Looks like a fun project, but since I don't know the first thing about archery, I wondered if the result (done correctly, of course) would be satisfactory. Apparently you can tiller to a draw weight acceptable for hunting, but honestly I'm just interested in shooting targets in the back yard (at least for now). At the price advertised, I suppose I could afford to screw it up once and start over, having learned from my mistakes. If it goes well, I may try making a second bow for my daughter. She's only 9 years old and about 4' 8" tall. I'm wondering if this kit could be adapted for somebody that tall (short).

Cool kit. I think the better value comes in one of Bingham Projects' kits simply because the end result will be a phenomenal quality.  You'll be just under double into one of their kits, but you would have 20x the bow as a result.

Yes I have built a similar one. 72" 63# @ 26". Bamboo backed hickory, nice bow til my boy pulled it back and it snapped! Took it apart and it had a bad spot under a node. Never any other probs with Jim and the gang. I buy my supplies other places now since they went wholesale.

I dunno, go to poorfolksbows.com then head to Home Depot! Board bow is a lot easier to start on then that. A floor tiller isn't much. That's just cut to the shape.

I second this. I'm not sure that the kit will give much value over just buying the lumber. If you're anything like me, cutting out the bow on a bandsaw and getting to a rough shape is the easy part. I broke bows on the tillering step, which you'll still have to do with the kit.

I would be more interested in the kits with some more complicated composite bows with multiple pieces.

Or you can come down to my house and I will give you a 52in. Bear Kodiak MAGNUM , 50 lbs at 28 in.. You are about the same size as my son-inlaw so I suspect your draw legth is around 26-27 inches . It would be a good treestand bow .

Jump on that offer! Magnums always make great back ups if your dead set on a stick bow.
