new wheels/tires 06 f150 help

I bought a new (to me) 06 f150 about two months ago. It currently sits on 35's with 20 inch tires. I am going to need new tires before winter for sure but I was also wanting to get some new wheels for it. I would like to go with 33" tires and probably something closer to 18" wheels for two reasons. One is I like the idea of more rubber and less wheel plus I currently have to carry a spare in the bed of the truck because a 35" tire doesn't fit underneath. I have been watching CL as well as looked at Les Schwab and Discount Tires. Just wondering if any of you guys know a better place to get a decent set up that won't break the bank. I would sell my current wheels and tires to offset the cost a little as well.

33in arnt too big so i would think 16 or 17 inch rims would both be cheeper and the tires would be as well If it were me Id look under the truck and see what rim size the spare is.  If not look to see what the stock tire/wheels size was for the spare.

Most online places arnt that cheep UNLESS you buy the tire wheel package mounted and then freight can take quite a bite... but the mounted combo is the only way i would suggest  buying online unless you have the ability to demount/mount your own tires. I dont know if 06 has the required TPMS sensors but that is another cost... Lame as all get out if you ask me.

I'd go with 17's if I were you, cheaper wheels and tires and I personally think they look better than 18's abd up. 285 70 17s are about 33 inches and look good on a stock f150. And I'm pretty sure you can fit a 33 in the spot for your spare. What type of tire are you wanting?

I guess I should clarify. I meant no bigger than 18" wheels but would probably go with 17" as that is what I had on my last truck and I liked them. I have had good experience with Toyo and also Mickey Thompson. I don't want anything too aggressive but want something that is a good all terrain set up.

If 16" would clear the brake calipers then id go 16" if not then 17" 18" seems to be an oddball size and there seems to be lesss options for them, at least on trucks... I bet tire rack would tell you if a 16" rim would fit your rig... or at least what stock options for it were.

The toyo at 2's are good in everything except mud I guess. I'm gonna be getting new ones soon as well. Not sure I want to spend the money for toyo Mts. Might go back to the cooper st maxx

Thanks guys. I don't put a lot of miles on my rig so I am ok spending the little extra on a nicer tire because I know it will last me.

What size are stock wheels for your truck? If you go below that wheel diameter you may have clearance issues over the brakes. If 18's were stock you may not be able to go to a 17.

I will check and see what the stock spare is underneath. I bought it with the after market wheels and tires

PM with the VIN # and I'll tell you what the factory tire/wheel size was. Probably 17's.

I'd look at Nitto Terra Grappler tires. Good tires, made by the same company who makes Toyo at a much lower price.
 
If it were me, I'd run 18's I think.

That's the exact tire size I ran on my 04 Supercrew, and I had zero issues with fitting a full size spare under the truck.  I'd expect since you are already sitting on 35's that you have a leveling kit installed, is that the case?  Once you change everything, be sure to get an alignment done, otherwise you'll have uneven tire wear, trust me.

I have been pricing tires for my truck. The previous owner put 18s on it. Most tires I have looked at are running about $40 more apiece than the comparable 17 inch tires.
