where are they!?
« on: April 13, 2015, 10:00:12 AM »
Been going out to the spot the last few weeks to see how the bird activity was and I was surprised to find nothing but old scratches and a few droppings there wasnt even any sign in the roost tree i had found the year before. I didn't start hunting this spot till later in the season I'd say a week or two into the season but have already seenore bikers and 4/wheeler and trucks then I saw the whole team I spent there last year is my spot just became to chaotic for the birds or are they just not in the area yet.any advice or opinions welcome

I am convinced the birds around here have a cave they hide in.   :chuckle:  or they all go hang out in the field with all the no hunting and no trespassing signs.  Your birds may be on the same program.

Was in Republic this weekend and ran into the same thing, no birds in any of the places I have seen before.  Not sure if things are late or what.
Not much for bear sign either.

maybe the lack of snow, etc. this winter has pushed them to some new areas? :dunno:

I been roosting toms for the last 3weeks. Mornings seem to be the most vocal but the boys are hammering atleast once from the roost each night but still not hot yet but they are out there. Better weather will get them talking more

My aircraft carriers in and very busy with execution on the project .... don't think I'm getting out this year.   Buying a new RV in a couple of months, so will have to make it next year for sure.   Saw your turkey slaughter on the other thread ... get a few for me !

My hunting spot for the last 10 years has slightly changed this spring.
The majority of birds are up higher in elevation, and the hens all seem to be nesting.
I think everything is happening earlier this year due to the mild winter & nice spring.
I'd like to think I learn something new after every hunt, and this year has had some new experiences!

Gobbling hard in the roost this morning. Seems like they are heading up the ridge now after fly down, when just a week ago they would head down to the fields at fly down.

The birds are around. Just spread out more. From what I have seen , it looks like most of the hens have already been bread. Seeing big bachelor groups with long beards and jakes. 0 hens.
