Did A Wolf Do This?

I ran across these tracks in the snow while turkey hunting in NE Washington (Colville National Forest) last week. That is a standard 2 3/4" shotgun shell for reference. My initial gut reaction was that they are wolf tracks. What do you all think?

Looks to be roughly a 4" track from tip to tip of the pads. I'd say wolf.
There is something just indescribably painful about being stuck behind a prius on the interstate.

 :yeah: definitely canine and I would say if there are no human tracks around or you are quite a ways from any sort of civilization then yes wolf-especially if you are in NE washington.

Wolf tracks are 4 1/2 x 5 inches approx. Those are probably melted out coyote tracks.  :dunno:

I thought that too.... I've never seen tiny wolf tracks though. They are really distinctive looking once you've seen them.

It could be a smaller wolf. The tracks don't seem to be melted out much to me but it's hard to tell sometimes.

Were they all generally in a straight line or did they meander? Straight line = wolf or coyote, meandering = dog.

Realistically someone could come through with a 90-100 lbs dog that could lay down a print that size, but more realistically, what are the chances of that actually happening where you were?

I was there to and just up the road was a good size calf moose 3 legs, shoulder bone, 1/4 of the spine skill and hide. I don't know if big game hunter took a pic of that or not. The wolf was there the day early and a coyote was on it that day very fresh tracks. I should of placed a trail cam on the site. It would of been cool to see what it would catch on film.
Boar looking for Sow to hunt with. LOL

These are wolf.  Found about a week ago in unit 121 roughly 4 miles from my house.  The knife is 4.5 inches folded
