How to fish like a pro
« on: April 26, 2015, 08:19:47 AM »
I booked a trip with Westoort Charters on the sea angel for my dad, two brothers, and myself. Being the experienced fisherman that I am  I knew that the trip would be amazing. So here's a quick run down of how to fish like me, the family fishing expert:

- Work too late the day before the trip and go to bed at about 1 am
- get up at 2:30 feeling queasy from the moment you open your eyes.
- drive 2.5 hours while everybody else sleeps since they didn't get to bed until 10:00 the night before.
- check in on time and chat it up with the others on the boat about how experienced you are and laugh about how many people will get seasick by the end of the day.
-motor for 2 hours to the fishing grounds instantly realizing that this was a horrible idea.
-drop a line in the water as soon as possible and hope that nobody notices that you've got the shakes and look like a zombie.
- pull in your limit of black rock fish like a champ, dragging them in 2 at a time until you limit out in about 25 minutes.
-spend the next 7 hours on the water being violently ill in a semi delirious state mumbling to yourself about things that need to get done at work.  :puke:
- get back to the dock and realize that this was the dumbest thing you've ever done until seeing how much fun the rest of the family had and get a look at the giant sack of fish fillets you're taking home.
- tell the captain and the deck hand what a great time you had, and start planing the next trip

I regret not getting more pictures but my brother was kind enough to send me a picture he took of me mid day.

In all honesty it was a great trip. The whole boat pulled a limit of rock fish in less than 1 hour. The lings were a little more elusive but there were still 4 keepers thrown in the boat with one of them being my dads. The captain Brian and his deck hand Lacy did an amazing job. It's amazing to watch them hustle around that boat with fish flying all over the deck. It was a great goup on the boat and everybody had a good time.

I'm still not sure why I got hit so bad with the motion sickness. I've spent what I would consider to be a fair bit of time on the water in rougher conditions than we had yesterday. Just bad luck I guess.  :dunno:
