Damage elk tags option.
« on: May 02, 2015, 08:58:40 AM »
I noticed when I bought my tags that they offer damage elk tags, I can't find any info on damage elk hunts in the regs.  Why are they letting people buy these tags, where are these damage hunts?  Are they just for master hunters, and if so, why can I buy one if I'm not a master hunter?

They are for landowners who have issues with elk damage.

But it showed up on my option list, does that mean I can buy one? And if so, what the heck can I do with it?

Yes I think you could buy one, but you'd need to have permission to hunt on private land in order to use it.

I wonder why they don't explain this in the regs?  So only guys with inside info can really utilize these tags, normal joe probably doesn't know who to call and get permission from. Is this an additional elk?

I don't think this is new- the only thing that's new is that they made the tags available to purchase online.

You can but one but you will need a damage permit to accompany the transport tag.
