Columbia salmon regulations
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:37:47 AM »
Ok I'm lost, when it comes to hunting regs I think it's really simple and completely understand what I'm looking at...
I'm new to salmon fishing and am going with someone Saturday that says he can show me everything but I don't feel comfortable not knowing the rules before hand.
Questions:

1. The regs clearly say salmon opens from John day to the Dallas from June 16 to July 31 and I get that they open outside of that time but I am having trouble finding black and white proof that it is open currently.  Where can I visually confirm that the season really is open tomorrow? Or is it open?

2. Are there different regs for this season than for the regular season?

3. Those are my primary questions, I'm also curious, if you are willing to answer, what kind of setups you have gear wise?  I've got an old penn reel and rod that I would like to have set up for salmon and sturgeon, occasionally, what size line would you recommend?  If there was $50 in gear that I absolutely have to have what would it be?  What bait/tackle do you recommend for where I'm going?

Honestly, I just want answers for 1 and 2 but if you are willing to help out with three on here or via pm I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys

Check ou t WDFW website for the current regs on the river. 50$ doesn't go very far for fishing gear anymore. :chuckle: I'd fish this weekend and see then what you might invest in? Good luck!

The Columbian keeps updated fish counts and regs as they change as well.
