Leaky Primer Pocket?
« on: May 07, 2015, 05:17:21 PM »
Hi Forum,

While inspecting my fired cases I found this.  These are Winchester Large Magnum Rifle Primers igniting 77.2 Grains of H1000 pushing a 180 grain Accubond Bullet.  Anyone seen the discoloration I have in the two cases on the right?  Should this be any cause for concern?

Thank you very much!

I would reload those 4 again and mark the two that have the discolored primers and see if it does it again.

It looks almost like corrosion on the primers.  Odd that none of it is on the case itself.  I would look into it further though...

 :yeah:.........my thought, as well.

Gases from primer leaks have been black/dark/etc.......in my experience.

Is it possible that there's corrosion on the bolt face which was then transferred to the primers upon firing.....?

Resize them and seat a new primer... you should he able to tell if the primer pocket is too loose to hold the new primer adequately.

Did you put them in a leather belt or leather ammo holder or something?

Looks like verdigris, not primer flow.

Yep, corrosion causes the green color.

That has nothing to do with leaky primer pockets.
