Got my bow tuned and some new hunting arrows/ broadheads
« on: May 14, 2015, 06:19:43 AM »
Went down to Steve's archery in walla walla yesterday and had him look at my bow. He checked timing on cams. He also noticed that my knocking point had loosened and moved up. Very nice guy and answered all of my questions. I also got some huntin arrows and broadheads. I got the Victory rip v3 .204 arrows and Montec g5 100 g stainless broadheads.any one use these?  I calculated the FOC and it came out to 11.7%. All I need to do now is practice practice practice.

I use the same broadhead but in 125 gr. shooting the carbon exspess. 70 pounds 428 gr arrow with that tip. Deadly... My last 3 deer went down within 20 yards. Dead deer running, Hits very hard.

I've gotten my dad and brother both Montec G5's and Nap Hellrazors (both are basically the same thing) for past Christmas'. They've had good success on deer with them. Not saying they wouldn't work on elk if that's your quarry, they just haven't shot any elk with them. I personally prefer 2 blade heads, but 3 blades have been getting it done for a long time. I just prefer max penetration/simplistic design for both my compound and my long bow. My FOC is about 18% for the compound (64# & 650gr) and 23% for the long bow (53# & 666gr). They slow down when they hit the ground on the far side.

Awesome I'm glad to hear you guys like them!! I'm excited to try them out. I will be goin after deer. So what is the deal with arrow weight regulations do my arrows need to be a certain weight to be legal.? My arrows are 456 gr.

Your total arrow weight, including the point, cannot be below 6 grains per pound of draw weight or below 300 grains, whichever is larger. If you draw 60lbs, your arrow must weigh a minimum of 360 grains (60lbs x 6 grains per pound). There are also minimum arrow lengths and the like, but they so small (20"), no one older than say 10 years old has to worry about it. Minimum draw weight is 40lbs at 28". Minimum arrow weight is 300 grains. So if you shoot the state minimum, 40#, you'd need arrows heavier than 6 grains per pound to meet the absolute minimum weight of 300 grains. Also if you use something like a longbow or a recurve, at a draw length less than 28", you'd need a bow marked greater than 40#, because at your draw length, you would fall under state minimums.

It seems that this year they got rid of the language concerning barbed tips as well, because of the legalization of mechanical heads.
