Leech Lake??
« on: May 21, 2015, 09:58:00 AM »
Anyone fish and/or camp at Leech Lake up on White Pass? Wondering when is the time to hit it with the fly rod. I think it might be a little early now, but maybe later in June?

Thanks!!

I know it is selective gear rules, but we used to do good on float tube about 9 years ago in there. I think now would be a great time, they just released 650 trout in there 2 days ago!

I talked to a dad and a son up there a few weeks ago and they have been fishing it regularly. Doing good on brookies and holdovers.

If I see any wp locals today, I will ask them how they're doing.

We'd be flyfishing, and I have a driftboat, so that all works for me....I've never been there, but I understand there's a boat launch.

How is the campground? Does it get crowded?
I'm not planning on going this weekend FWIW.

The campground for leech lake is small and is full on most friday afternoons for the weekend. There is the White Pass horse camp to the east that I have never seen full up except on major weekends.

However, leech lake is packed on most weekends. From my experiences of taking lunch up there, I would recommend camping and fishing Monday-Thursday during the week. Sometimes on weekdays, there isnt a soule up there.

The boat launch is nothing special.

Thanks...that's good info. My driftboat doesn't require much in terms of a launch. Some grass or something other than a cliff or rocks is really all I need.

Fishing ok up there now. As you know not much snow up there. As mentioned camping spots on weekend fill up quickly .

May camp down by Rimrock Lake and tow boat up to fish..
Chronies, soft hackle chronies, micro leeches in red and black fish well there.

Bring midge top water patterns too 18 and 20's. Long leaders.

Fun lake to fish.  Dog Lake usually fishes well too.
