I've been putting in for 5 years now (I realize this isn't as long as some of you) for this tag so you can imagine my excitement once I got the results.

I'm a recently converted archery hunter. After killing a few bucks over the past years and striking out on getting a spike bull during modern rifle season I figured I'd try my hand at archery again (I did it about 10 years ago and loved it but didn't have the funds to continue at the time). Over the years I've spent most of my time hunting a nearby unit and I've hunted a bit around Quartz mtn. I'm in pretty good shape and willing to boot how ever many miles it'll take to bring a dandy bull home.

I'm looking for any help that people are willing to offer. If you know of a general area or place that might offer me the best chance of success please PM me. I'm thinking of entering the unit from I-90 but at this point I'm open to any and all suggestions coming from those that know the are better than I do.

Thanks

Get some unit maps and study the area well.  Lots of elk in the area.  Also shoot your bow as much as you can 3-D shoots will hope you hone your shooting skills.

Get down in some holes and move slow when you're seeing sign.  Practice your calling and don't overcall.

I'd invest in a good pair of boots and I'd plan to take at least 7 consecutive days off.  Tough to get in a good groove doing the weekend thing.  Do your best to do justice for this tag.  You drew in 5 years but it's unlikely you'll draw again this side of 50.

Don't take it lightly.  Don't.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

If you can run a bugle you can fill that tag. Especially with the later archery dates. Tons of nice Bulls in naches and taneum.
