Small game hunting in kitsap county
« on: July 11, 2015, 01:46:50 PM »
I am a new hunter to western washington but I have lived here my whole life. I have always hunted eastern washington with my parents but this year I am going to do some small game hunting here in kitsap county. I am familiar with the area but I don't know any good places to hunt small have like rabbits or raccoons and also a place to hunt birds like pheasant and quail. Please help.

I only see rabbits around my home in suquamish, never when I am out hunting in Kitsap. Which admittedly hasnt been much.  But I am going to start doing more of it. I would look at the areas south and west of green mountain for public areas to get in ans small game hunt, but no idea about small game there.  I have heard thre are pheasant release sites in Belfair, and I have seen pheasants around Bremerton and quail out off lake flora rd in port orchard. Not sure there is any hunting access over there or not. Some powerline roads and some private timber that I used to ride the horses through as a kid but I have no idea what the access laws are. Good luck!

for Pheasan there is a release site off bear creek dewato road and tahuya blacksmith road... quail have seen some around just like grouse slim pickings there is some DNR land around the seabeck holly road area of Green Mountain.  toward the south end of the county there is ORM property that I use for coyote.  also if you go over the Hood Canal Bridge you can find ORM property that you can hunt on on the left side of 104 might hold some small game.  BUT i went out to get my game camera's and ORM put no public access signs out due to fire danger. good luck.

Not really Kitsap, but I think there is a pheasant release site just south of where the Skokomish River enters Hood Canal.  Check WDFW 'cause I could be wrong.

There are release sites for pheasant in Belfair as mentioned, Hunter farms (south end of the canal by the Skokomish river) and one off of Hwy 3 between Grapeview and Shelton. Quail and grouse are few and far between, though there are a few around Belfair and Dewatto (used to get good info from the DNR bio or the WDFW rep. at the August meeting of the Peninsula bird hunters Association) but access to shooting areas is tough. The Peninsula Bird Hunters Association is having their kick off meeting on Sept.10 at 6pm (look it up on their website). Rabbits are all over out here in the south end of the county. That is about it for small game, good luck!
