Advice for Fishing in August?
« on: July 16, 2015, 05:47:16 PM »
I'm thinking about hooking up the boat and taking my stepson fishing on the west side in mid-August...preferably in the sound - away the big swells.  Any advice on which direction to head?  We would be looking for a place to fish for pinks or silvers - it really doesn't matter which.   It would be his first time fishing in the salt and he would be excited to catch either. We have an 18' Hewescraft with downriggers.  Also, the last time I fished for pinks in the sound, a white flasher with just about anything pink following it seemed to be the recipe for success.  Is that still the case?  Your thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Put in at Everett, head to Posession, Humpy Hollow, Shipwreck, etc and get in line... There will be no secret spots out there. Where you see dozens of boats, there will be fish. Listen to the radio if you have one.

Sounds good, thanks for the assist, Jakelope.  Is there anything close to Bellingham area?

If you don't mind the extra few hours drive, I used to pull my 18' Hewescraft to Sekiu every year.   Mid-August the pinks should be thick and you'll have the chance to catch some nice silvers as well.   Generally the water conditions are mild in the morning, but the wind can pick up in the afternoon.  Mid-August on pink years in Sekiu is almost always the most salmon action a guy can get (but of course it's fishing so you never know).
Most days after we had our salmon limits, we would motor down to area 4 and fish for sea bass and lings.

All that being said, Everett is closer, but I have never fished it.

Good luck!

Thanks Tom!  Sounds like it might be worth the drive to Sekiu. I've never been there but I've always wanted to see it...might as well tow the boat over and give it a whirl.  I appreciate the help, Tom.  Thank you!!
