Small machete

Anyone carry a small machete while outdoors? I've been thing about buying one sea like they'd be pretty handy

I almost always carry a machete when I'm scouting. If I don't feel like packing the machete, I will at least keep a small set of pruners in my pack along with a small folding saw. It's especially nice to have when you come to a wall of blackberry vines across a trail. It can be pretty tough to get through without some sort of tool to cut your way through. When I'm actually hunting I never carry a machete as they are too noisy. But I'll often carry a large knife on my belt so it's easily accessible for those blackberry vines.

I found one last year and it has been handy to have along the river and in snake country. I killed a snake this spring with it. In the sticks, I prefer a hatchet or a small folding Corona saw.

I don't like the thin floppy blade on my gerber,  wouldn't mind something more robust.

Got this knife at a G sale three years ago. Lives in the side of my pack.

Has come in handy many times.

When I am brushing in a blind I can lop off some low hanging green limbs. Used to make a fire too.

And used it on some elk bone once.

I also carry hand pruners for improving shooting lanes.
